Most AI discourse treats the humanities as soft skill — ethics tacked on at the end, philosophy in the workshop title, literature as illustration. Literature as Source Code refuses that placement.
Close reading is a method, not a hobby. Methodology — the discipline of knowing what you know and how — is the inheritance of a hundred years of qualitative research. Situated knowing is what AI is not, and what humans are.
When the humanities show up in AI work as source code, they shape what gets built. When they show up as decoration, they shape only the press release.
